Masters Rowing
The Masters program is geared toward experienced adult rowers, or enthusiastic novices who have successfully completed the Masters Learn to Row program. Masters members practice 3-4 days per week year round, on a regular schedule, focusing on teamwork, technique, and endurance. The program primarily focuses on sweep rowing, but there are opportunities for sculling as well. Masters rowers also have the opportunity to compete in regional regattas if interested.
Rowing as an adult offers a fantastic low-impact, full-body workout that builds strength (legs, core, back, arms), boosts cardiovascular health, burns calories, improves posture, and reduces stress, making it ideal for all fitness levels. It’s ideal for older adults as well by engaging up to 86% of muscles for endurance and body composition improvements without high joint impact. Currently the Masters program includes rowers from age 25 through 81.
General physical health benefits of rowing include getting a full-body workout in about an hour, low impact for joints, improves cardiovascular strength, burns calories and builds muscle, strengthens core and back muscles for improved posture, reduces stress and promotes sharper cognition and focus. Rowing with a club also promotes a social connection and combats loneliness in older adults.
